The Sweet and Spicy Soundtrack: V.6

Different Month, Different Season, Different Artists. Now if only the weather would comply with the other trends then we would be able to recognize the change a bit more.

Either way, here is an up and coming artist by the name of Topaz Jones. His musical style parallels his name; splashy, colorful, and confident.  With a father who was a funk musician and a grandmother who formed a Motown group with her siblings, this rapper/singer/songwriter has influences that are more than evident in his work.

Give him a listen and see if he can provide you with a groove that you can vibe with.

I recommend listening to the song “Toothache” while getting ready to go out and have fun with a bunch of your closest friends.

This past week has been a particularly troubling time for our nation. It’s easy to let the news wear us down into lethargy or depression. To counteract this feeling I recommend Idles, a UK punk band who recently released their sophomore album Joy As An Act Of Resistance. They are raucous, angry, and joyful. They wear their beliefs on their sleeve. Straightforward, blunt lyrics blurted over energetic guitars and drums. It’s invigorating.

Get your head right.

Deviating from the beaten path here, Ive found myself listening to podcasts a lot more than music. This particular one is more of an audio book with commentary not at all heady or political. Im currently listening to a serial podcast that encompasses entrepreneurial business strategies in the culinary sector,  human Anatomy, and the sociology of sexuality all in a neat 30-45 minute bundle.  It is titled “My Dad Wrote a Porno”. Take everything you learned in 6th grade health class and throw it out the window. Also, dont drive while listening youre likely to get into an accident from low blood flow the brain…from laughing of course.
