The Sweet & Spicy Soundtrack: Halloween Special

Posted by Andre Herrera:

For our first halloween themed Sweet and Spicy Playlist I wanted to showcase my latin roots and help tie a fun playlist to All Hallows Eve and The Day of the Dead.I started putting together a collection of favorites but mid search I found that Billboard.com had hired  Ecuadorian-Lithuanian music producer, DJ Riobamba to do just that. And her list is A LOT more fun than mine. So if you were ever looking for Cumbias about the spectere of death,Salsa music about Zombies, or Old School Reggaeton about lamentful gargoyles, thanks to DJ Riobamba we’ve got you covered.

For this special Halloween edition of the soundtrack, I have to pick my favorite album about a murderous, vengeful baby girl. I am of course talking about Abigail by King Diamond. Not only is it dark and spooky, it also shreds! King’s growls paired with his trademark falsetto create an ominous cast of characters. Abigail is a concept album with a brutal backstory with guitar solos creeping around every corner. It’s creepy and cheesy and perfect for all your little Halloween headbangers! Be careful on those stairs, kids!

If you’re sick and tired of listening to monster mash at work for the umpteenth time and are a big horror cinephile; then allow me to introduce to you “Halloween Unmasked” from The Ringer Podcast Network. It’s 5+ hours of actually entertaining slasher film analysis, with commentary and behind the scenes notes from the creators of the film that started it all, “John Carpenter’s Halloween”. Take a stab at it and give it a listen.
